Photo: SUNSET 151a
Then the color shifted!! Notice the vertical streak near the center. That's not a lens flare of my camera... it was a real feature of the sunset.

Here's another shot about a minute later. Notice how the sky seems to catch fire!

Photo: CLOUDS 21a
Sometimes the colors around here just amaze me. I used no filters on the camera. This is how it actually looked.

Photo: CLOUDS 27a
I hope you all don't mind but I'm taking a short rest from painting while I build some canvases. In the mean time I'm posting un-retouched photos that I've taken of some pretty wonderful skies. These shots have not been altered in any way other than resizing them smaller. This one was taken Sunday at around noon out on Shelter Island. The hole in the clouds where the sun shines through looks like the hand of God could reach through at any moment.

SUNSET IV - FINAL
I see the beauty with each stroke of your brush
I feel the beauty come to life with each gentle touch
I feel your gift of beauty that fills my soul
I a ‘wait each day anew for graceful colors
Each touching and flowing one to another
Blended to pure perfection
Happiness is stilled within my eyes
With purest delight
As I see a Lighthouse appear
A landscape from the hills
To an ocean far away
Stretch my vision beyond my day
I say thank you my friend
From a world away
For ending my day with a smile

A couple of us "desperados" stayed in the park until dark but sold nada. At least we were treated to a wonderful sunset. We'll try it again today and hope for more customers. Wish us luck!

Sorry for the delinquent post but I've been busy selling art in the park, stretching new canvases and making frames. This is a photograph of the sunset from my back porch the other evening that I thought was amazing. I'll post a new painting soon.

LA JOLLA SUNSET II - FINAL
At this size you can't even see the changes since the painting is four feet wide so this will be the final showing of this one.

LA JOLLA SUNSET II - STEP 2
Well I took this to the park this last weekend and it didn't sell so I'm going to work on it a little more...

LA JOLLA SUNSET II - STEP 1
Here is another version of the La Jolla Sunset. It's a 48" x 29" acrylic airbrushed painting that I began today as a sketch with the thought that I would use oil paint over it to finish it. I kind of like a lot of it just the way it is so I don't know what to do. Should I detail it out with oil paint to make it more realistic or leave it as a rather impressionistic airbrush acrylic? What to do... what to do...?

OLD POINT LOMA LIGHTHOUSE III- STEP 1
Since my last two lighthouse paintings have sold immediately I'm thinking, "Let's do THAT again!!". Here I've used Payne's Gray and White with a touch of French Ultramarine Blue to block in the sky and the shadowed part of the building itself as it reflects the sky color.

SHELTER ISLAND
Today while selling art in the park two huge cruise ships came into port and made me long for an ocean voyage. I need to sell a lot more paintings before that will be happening... still, I can dream.
